Eye of the Tiger

Meet Renetta Burke — by Carey Sancroft

Motivation. It’s a strong word that represents what drives us in humanity to achieve the goals we set out and to gain the incentives that draw us closer. Motivation is anchored by one’s emotional intelligence and personality. the reason I am telling you this is so you will understand the reasoning behind the intense actions of the person I am going to tell you about.

Renetta Burke has struggled with weight most of her life and even at her fuller figure, she carried it well. She is an inspiring person with an inviting smile and an outgoing personality that strives to do her best to improve herself and help others to improve themselves. Renetta began her journey to fitness at Tiger’s World 4 years ago when a friend probed her into attending the hard-care classes.

The first class I did ten jump-n-jacks and I was done. I counldn’t breath. I had to gradually build myself up to where I am now.

Burke began training with the berto’s and now continues to train six sometimes seven days a week to keep up with her successful frame. “I don’t think, I know that I’m addicted. like right now I’m missing class. I have to work out three to four hours a day. I just have to. It’s like a drug I’m telling you” Renetta lives, breathes, eats and drinks health and fitness and at a mighty incentive. Over the past three years she has shed sizes like second skin and has given away every piece of clothing that shee could no longer wear. “I gave away clothes at least fifty times. to me, if I keep them then that means I want to go back to that size” states Burkke.

Renetta weighed in at 273 pounds three years ago and is now an astonishing 135 pounds. she may have lost the pounds although with it she gained a better sense of selft, energy, and abs that would put Janet Jackson to shame.

I’ve gained a ton of energy. I can’t even tell you how much. To this day it still doesn’t feel real to me.

Renetta is now being trained as an instructor at Tiger’s World; where she maintains seven fitness groups; and will be going to get her official certification soon. “I have really great people. It can be a thousand degrees outside and I can send out a text to everyone and say lets meet at such and such at this time and they will come”, proclaims Burke of her influence “people look up to me. they say I am like a machine, whis is true!”

As far as Burke’s social life; it is nothing more or nothing less than her fitness regimen. “I don’t have a social life. I’m pretty laid back. I’m not out there like that” states Burke. “I haven’t changed as a person, I’m still the same. I’m just a little smaller but I don’t let that get to my head. I don’t let compliments go to my head. I never forget where I came from. I don’t get comfortable. I’m loyal to the game”.

Renetta is a true inspiration and living proof that it can happen even for the most discouraged individuals. Burke competed in 2008′s Tiger’s World Challenge where she came in third place, however did not compete this year. Tiger’s World will be signing up for the new fitness challenge soon where participant’s compete for 12 weeks with daily fitness training, vigorous diet, and unlimited motivational speeches from Berto himself for encouragement. Cash and other prizes are awarded to the winners and winners are determined by a combination of how many body inches have been lost and how many pounds were shred during the 12 week session. Sign ups begin now and begins the end of January. Participants are required to be in the gym seven days a week in order to reach their goal.
